What strikes me about the story is the big assumption that Mr T-Shirt made:
male + female cannot = just friends.
Yes, as you so kindly interpret, he maybe had experiences and became defensive. But he also didn't accept your honest explanation. I wonder if Kelly thinks of this episode when she wears the shirts. Maybe she gave them to other people.

Oh for sure, he was def an old school male type, and this was 14 years ago. Kelly and I are still very good friends and we laugh about this moment in our friendship.
